200 children participated in a five-day fun-filled programme organised by Holy Magi Church and Suryoday Samaj Kendra from November 10-14, 2021 in a week-long celebration of Children’s Day. The programme began with a meaningful Eucharist, celebrated by Fr Edward Jacinto, Parish Priest. The children were then led in a procession to the venue by Sr Christel and social worker Sadichaand Clifton, followed by a short prayer by Fr Edward. Highlighting the theme of Child Rights, Sr Christel stressed on the right to development, right to participation, right to protection and right to survival as crucial for their overall development. Numerous games and activities were organized, keeping their spirits alive throughout the programme.
One of the main highlights of the programme was the enactment of different saints, narrating their exemplary lives. The best performances were awarded prizes, and the efforts of the others was recognised with consolation prizes. The highlight of the event was the visit of the children to Gorai Police Station with a two-fold object – to reinforce the role of the police to ensure safety and protection of the community and to remove the inbuilt fear within a child towards the Police.
On November 18, the Centre celebrated World Day of the Poor with a gathering of 125 children from four orphanages. The day was filled with energising games and activities that made every child enjoy to their heart’s content. The event ended with the distribution of takeaway gifts that brought joy and happiness to the children’s faces.
The programme materialised as a result of the unconditional support of our Parish Priest, Parish Pastoral Council members, SVP members, silent donors and all the Sisters, for which we are sincerely grateful.
