Communities living Jesus Christ’s mission
The communitarian life in the different Small Christian Communities of St. Anthony’s Church, Vakola, have been thriving with activities that remember and celebrate Christ’s mandate of service with love throughout the year.
Some of the activities that witnessed participation of different families at the Parish level included a Thanksgiving Mass on the occasion of the 32nd Anniversary of SCC formation in our Parish, Christ the King Feast celebration, a service initiative during Advent to reach out to institutions supporting the poor and destitute in Mumbai called ‘Joy of Giving’. Parishioners generously contributed monetarily while the SCC Core Team led by Fr. Pascal Sinor arranged for the supplies to be sent to the institutions.
Besides these, two Jubilee Crosses that had begun visiting each family of the parish in March concluded their round of visits in December when it was brought back to the church. Community Thanksgiving mass, Advent Wreath Prayer, Carol singing, Prayer Services for children preparing for First Holy Communion and for the youth in formation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, Stations of the Cross and Five Holy Wounds of Jesus prayer were held in the community.
Children, Adults and Senior Citizens enthusiastically participated in these devotions and activities. The Co-ordinators and animators brought the love of Christ especially to their sick and homebound community members while engaging in these activities. Some communities within Zone 2 collaborated to organize carol singing with Fr. Ryan Alex joining in the celebration. While Zone 3 conducted the Stations of the Cross at Karjat with its community members.
Thanks to a well-planned framework of SCCs at the Archdiocese of Bombay, training is made accessible to those involved in the SCC Project through the Skills for Animators programme held in St. Pius X Seminary. A few of the Parishioners were felicitated with Certificate of Participation for completing this training programme.
Thanks to the support and encouragement of our Priest team headed by Dr. Rev. Francis Carvalho, our Religious Sisters of five different congregations guiding the SCC and its community members, Vakola continues to grow and stay vibrant thus living it mission of being True Witnesses of Christ, through Love and Service.
